Open House

The Liriodendron holds a free Open House each Wednesday from 1 to 5 pm in the winter months and 1 to 6pm the rest of the year.  We are also open the Second Sunday of each month from 11 am to 3 pm. There is no fee for admission and no reservations are required. For additional information, visit our Events page

Outside, our visitors may enjoy walking around our beautiful grounds, taking in the Liriodendron’s stunning architecture, and viewing our informational panels about the history of the Liriodendron and its connection with the Town of Bel Air.

Indoors, our interactive Museum on the 1st floor provides visitors with a chance to learn about the life and legacy of Dr. Howard A. Kelly and the Kelly family, the story of the Liriodendron, and their connections to local, state, and national history. And kids will enjoy exploring what life might have been like at the Liriodendron through our treasure hunt, which will take them through the Mansion and around the grounds.

Our 2nd floor Gallery showcases exhibits featuring works by local and regional artists, and educational displays on a variety of issues. Open House visitors are often given the chance to meet the artists or issue experts, and most works of art are available for purchase.

Open on Second Sundays, our Ice House provides visitors with a look at the lives of prehistoric native Marylanders, and is appropriate for children and adults alike.

Visitors may also meet with our staff during Open House to learn about renting the Liriodendron for their wedding, party, business function, or other event. We recommend making an appointment with our staff ahead of your visit to ensure they will be available to discuss your event.

Open House visitors can choose to take a self-guided tour or ask one of our friendly staff members or volunteers to provide a guided tour. (Please note: Guided tours may require wait time unless scheduled in advance.)
