The Three J’s and Friends

The Three J’s and Friends

John Sauers, Jonathan West and Justin Woytowitz

with award-winning artist Lise Lorentzen

May 5 through May 26

Exhibit Open Sundays 1 to 4 and Wednesdays 1 to 7

The Liriodendron is thrilled to welcome the 3 Js back to our gallery!  The work of John Sauers, Jonathan West, and Justin Woytowitz, all plein air artists and all members of the Liriodendron’s Wednesday Artists Group, will be showcased, along with pieces from the award-winning Rosemaling artist Lise Lorentzen.

John Sauers is a Harford County artist whose work has won awards at major shows and been featured in galleries across the region.

I was born in 1933 next to the woods…I do not paint scenes. I paint plein air images relevant to my life: I paint ‘lifescapes’ which reflect the road traveled from ‘next to the woods’ through the great valley of Virginia, to my ancestral place at Whitetop and Greencove Virginia.”

Jonathan West’s work has been shown across the region.  “These spirited expressions of light and color express my cathartic impressions of life and the inevitability of death.  Often inspired by tragic current events, these paintings are guided by emotion, fate and subconscious spiritual principles…”

Justin Woytowitz is a popular en plein air artist whose works have been shown in galleries and venues throughout the region and on the Eastern Shore.

Lise Lorentzen’s Rosemaling work can be found throughout the United States and Norway, as well as her commission work, which she continues to the present day. Her work has been on display at the Staten Island Museum as well as the Norwegian Seaman’s Church in New York. In 2014, Lise received First Place at the Sons of Norway Third District Convention, and placed third nationally in Vesterheim’s 2013 annual competition. Lorentzen, who has also been a Rosemaling instructor, will be giving a demonstration of her technique on opening day of the exhibit.

The exhibit will run from May 5 through May 26 and will be viewable on Wednesdays from 1 to 7 pm and Sundays from 1 to 4 pm.  Artists will be on site on Sundays.
