Liriodendron's History
The Arbor Manor School for Boys

Anecdotal evidence provides the few remaining details about the ill-fated school. Arbor Manor was begun in the 1940s. Possibly two students enrolled. The school never opened. But the guidebook offers a fascinating glimpse into the mansion at a time when it still retained a residential flavor.

About the images
The images on this page are from the guidebook. Photos are blown up in their full-sized versions to show details of the grounds and rooms. Click on any picture to see the enlarged version. Some of the eight grouped outdoor/indoor photos have been retouched - the original layout had the corners of some photos overlapping the corners of others.

The background of this Web page is a one-quarter size scan of the guidebook's inside cover. The cover is paper embossed to resemble coarse leather. Pages are printed on smooth sepia colored paper.
The outdoor photos below reveal the original purpose of the mansion and grounds - as a summer home for a family with nine children. This was one big play space!
